Shirley McLawhorn Lucas, 81, of Roanoke Rapids, died Wednesday, August 9, 2017.

Shirley, a native of Pitt County, was the daughter of the late William Bruce and Louise Hite McLawhorn. She was also preceded in death by a brother, William McLawhorn.

Shirley was a 1957 graduate of East Carolina University. She was a retired teacher with the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District. She was a member of ADK Sorority and First United Methodist Church in Roanoke Rapids.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Bob Lucas; their two sons, Steve Lucas and his wife, Tara, of Huntersville, and Scott Lucas and his wife, Camilla, of Belmont; her grandchildren, Evan, Emily, Adam and Lauren Lucas; her brother, Jimmy McLawhorn and his wife, Ann, of Fayetteville.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 12 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Corey Oliver officiating.

Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 11 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.
